Sealcon Black Nylon Cable Glands for Outdoor ApplicationsFebruary 7 2023
The line of Sealcon black nylon plastic cable glands are especially suited for use in outdoor applications. The nylon plastic material stands up to flame and various corrosive substances, while the black nylon is also UV / Ozone stable. They meet the standards for a UL 746C – f1 rating, meaning that they are long lasting in sunny conditions. This includes standards related to submersion, UV radiation, and exposure to light or water. The black nylon resists fading or cracking due to high amounts of UV light coming from the sun. This type of UV resistant cable gland is only available from Sealcon. The protection from UV rays allows these cable glands, also known as cord grips or strain relief fittings, to be used in the solar and photovoltaic industries. Sealcon nylon cord grips are also submersible to 300 feet, with the use of an O-Ring, which makes them liquid tight. They can be exposed to salt water as well, so they can be used in various marine applications. The wide operating temperature range of -40 F to 212 F permits use in a variety of outdoor environments. A more recent use has been outdoor electric vehicle charging stations, due to their weather and UV resistance. Other common areas and industries include outdoor lighting, telecommunications, and transportation. Sealcon black nylon strain relief fittings are available in flex and dome versions. The flex versions help prevent kinking and chafing of the cable by being able to bend with the cable. Thread types include a wide range of NPT, PG, and metric sizes. Standard sizes range from 1/4” to 1-1/2” NPT, PG 7 to PG 48, and M12 to M63. Special versions with inserts for multi-hole cable or flat Romex cable are also available. There is also a line of fiberglass reinforced black polyamide cable glands that carry ATEX approval for use in hazardous locations. |
