Overview of DIN 43650 to M12 Connectors

August 22 2024

The line of DIN 43650 to M12 connector adapters provides an easier installation process in automation applications. These adapters are available in Form A, Form B, or Form C, with or without a molded cable attachment. Circuit options include diodes, LED indicators, and MOV surge suppression. The M12 connections are 4 or 5 pin male plugs or receptacles.

DIN 43650 Solenoid Valve Characteristics

DIN 43650 solenoid valve connectors are rectangular and are named for meeting the standards set by DIN (Deutsches Institut fur Normung), which is a German organization. However, they are now also being referred to as EN 175301-803. While typically used for providing power to solenoid valves, they are used in many different applications to supply voltage or data. Most of them have IP ratings of IP 65 or IP 67 to provide moisture and dust protection to electronic components. DIN 43650 connectors come in 3 forms, each with different characteristics. Form A is the most common with its square base and 18mm pin spacing. Form B has a rectangular base with 10 or 11mm pin spacing. Form C also has a square base, but is taller than Form A, with 8 or 9.4mm pin spacing. They are fastened down with a center screw through the middle of the housing. Circuit functions such as LED indicators or surge suppression confirm the voltage supply and provides overvoltage protection from the source and load.

M12 Connector Characteristics

M12 connectors are round and are named for the size and type of their coupling thread. M12 refers to the overall diameter of the thread in millimeters. They are mostly used for sensors and actuators, but are among the most common type of circular connector used in industrial applications. M12 connectors can have different keyways, which refer to how the insert and contacts are arranged. The most common is the A-code, which has a single notch keyway. M12 connectors from different manufacturers can often be used with each other, if they are of the same keyway code. They are fastened with a screw coupling.

Uses for DIN 43650 to M12 Adapters

The M12 connection part of the adapter attaches the cable entry side, while the DIN 43650 connection attaches to the electrical terminals. A-coded M12 connectors are found in signal transmission and low voltage applications. Four pin versions such as the ones found in these adapters are ideal for power transmission, which make them perfect for use with valve connectors. DIN 43650 valve connectors are also used with sensors and flow monitors when providing them with power & data. They are sometimes referred to as valve connectors because they are mostly found with hydraulic or pneumatic solenoid valves. DIN 43650 to M12 adapters are versatile and can be used in a number of areas such as manufacturing, transportation, material handling, robotics, or even oil & gas, chemical plants, and food & beverage.

Using DIN 43650 to M12 adapters saves time during installation, and lowers costs by being able to purchase both components at once rather than separately. They increase versatility by allowing the DIN 43650 connector to be used in a greater number of applications, thanks to the attached M12 connector.
